Upbeat ride the extra mile with the ´Deloitte Ride Across Britain´ charity cycle

June 2010 and Olympic rowing gold medallist James Cracknell´s Threshold Sports company, in association with Deloitte, commence a charity bicycle ride from John O´Groats to Land´s End. With 650 cyclists, plus an army of support crew, travelling the gruelling journey of over 1000 miles in just 10 days, under the event management of ´Across the Divide´.

Upbeat Event Catering & Design, part of the Global Infusion Group were on-hand using their 26 years of experience in worldwide catering to take on the huge logistical challenge of providing high energy, nutritious breakfasts and dinners at base camps en-route down the length of Britain.

Using two teams who ´logistically leap-frogged´ each other to the required locations in specialist mobile kitchen trucks, Upbeat cooked up their culinary creations with locally sourced ingredients to produce regional dishes at each of the stop offs along the way. The catering firm provided a staggering 52,000,000 calories in 13,000 specially designed high energy meals to 650 famished cyclists. That´s enough energy to power the average British household for 2 days!

The riders tweeted and blogged about their journey online with many commenting on how excellent the food and service was and how it helped to keep the wheels turning:

"The food was great and so good to see local specialities on the menu, I had them all, Haggis, Cumberland Sausage, Hot Pot, Cornish pasties as well as Local beer and cider too. Service with a smile all the way. Well done to you all." - Robert Heaps (via Facebook)

"Amazing food tonight at #DeloitteRAB - beef and Yorkshires going down a treat with riders" - @annabelp79

"A very big and heartfelt thanks to all those involved in the support of this. The ever smiling pit crews, the Neg riders, caterers, medical, tents etc. It made the experience much more having you guys in the background. Never complaining, always smiling, many thanks." - Graham Ide (via Facebook)

The Upbeat team consisted of 2 link managers, head chefs, front of house managers and 19 members of staff, per team ¯ meaning 44 crew ´on the road´. Their task made all the more impressive as they roughed it with the riders sleeping in tents en-route. A challenge that many caterers would run a mile from, showing exactly why Global Infusion Group & Upbeat Event Catering and design are ahead of the pack.
